My New Crochet Garlands: Citrus, Watermelon and Scandinavian Folk Inspiration 🍊🍉
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a small collection of decorative crochet and felt garlands inspired by fruits, vintage decorations and Scandinavian interiors.
I enjoy creating simple, colorful and easy-to-make projects with a handmade spirit. For this series, I took inspiration from:
- vintage doilies,
- retro kitchen decorations,
- summer garlands,
- but also natural decorations traditionally used in Nordic homes during winter.
These garlands can be used both as summer and winter decorations.
All of these projects use beginner-friendly techniques suitable for crocheters who already know a few basic stitches.
🍊 Vintage Citrus Garland
This new garland combines orange slices, lemons and blood oranges with a construction inspired by vintage lace doilies.
I wanted to create a light and decorative project that could work both:
- as summer decor,
- in a kitchen,
- in a craft room,
- or even as a natural Christmas decoration.
In Denmark, dried orange slices are often used in homes to decorate Christmas trees and create a warm hygge atmosphere during winter. This garland was inspired by that tradition, but reimagined in crochet form.

🍉 Watermelon Garland
With its half watermelon slices and lace-style edging, this garland has a vintage shabby chic feel with soft faded pastel colors like dusty pink.
At first glance, you may not immediately recognize the watermelon slices. You can also add small black rhinestones or beads to emphasize the fruit effect and create watermelon seeds.
This is an easy and fun project perfect for:
- summer decoration,
- garden parties,
- colorful kitchens,
- or creative rooms.
I really love the mix between fruity motifs and vintage doily inspiration.
